Who We Are

Established in 2017 by award-winning author K.N. Smith, Mental Health California™ is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization delivering mental health awareness through publishing, community engagement, innovation, new media, and special programs. We provide education and awareness campaigns and health equity-driven signature initiatives. With our multimedia roots, we’ve grown to become one of the leading youth mental health education and awareness platforms available today. Our partnerships include school districts and youth-serving organizations to advance Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) education for youth populations.

Our signature initiative, Brother Be Well, is our original concept. It serves boys (ages 13+) and men of color including African American, Native American, Latinx, and Asian and Pacific Islander American, and for those who identify as LGBTQIA+ within these communities. We also produce the Into the Classroom Student Mental Health Awareness Multimedia Series, the Youth Substance Use Prevention Academy, the story-driven Youth Narrative Project, and the North Falls Graphic Novels Series. Our multimedia blog is enjoyed by tens of thousands of subscribers across the U.S. and in other countries.
